What Are Braces?

If you are someone that has concerns about the spaces between your teeth, crowding, crooked or an uneven bite then braces may be an option for you. The main reason why people get braces, especially at a young age is to align crooked teeth so they are nice and straight. Another reason for braces being needed is to align a bite so the teeth meet perfectly when you close your teeth together.

How Do Braces Work?

The way that braces work is by constantly putting pressure on a tooth or teeth to encourage movement .Over time the tooth/teeth will slowly move to the desired position, eventually making them nice and straight.

Do Braces Hurt?

After the first appointment upon placing the braces you may feel slight tenderness and possibly develop ulcers on your soft tissue as your mouth is not used to having the braces. Depending on how long it takes your body to adjust to the braces, it may take up to a week for your mouth to get used to having something new.

When getting your braces adjusted approximately every couple of weeks you may also feel some tenderness for a few hours after  your appointment this means your bracing are doing their job as they are moving your teeth where they need to be.
